Serie A Team of the Season: Tevez & Toni head the star cast

Goal runs through the best players in the Italian top flight in 2013-14 and picks out the top 11 performers over the course of the campaign

Another season nears its close, with Juventus again being crowned champions of Serie A. But it has not only been men in black and white stripes thrilling fans around the country, and Goal's Team of the Season for 2013-14 tells the tale of a campaign fought hard by some of the continent's star performers.
With star names such as Francesco Totti, Rodrigo Palacio, Antonio Cassano and Paul Pogba all coming close but missing out, the strength of the chosen XI is something special.

Mattia Perin has been at the centre of much talk for a period of years now, with his reputation having preceded him for some time, but in 2013-14 he really came of age. Keeping 10 clean sheets and adding notable penalty saves from spot-kicks by German Denis and Mario Balotelli, the young shot-stopper helped Genoa to a comfortable mid-table finish long before the final weeks of the season.

It was a new shirt but the same old story in 2013-14 for Mehdi Benatia, who followed up his Team of the Season appearance for Udinese with another with new club Roma this time around. His consistency at both ends of the field was one of the main reasons the Giallorossi enjoyed a phenomenal league campaign.

Leandro Castan was another fantastic addition for the capital club. The Brazilian has been the beating heart of a Roma defence that has conceded just 23 goals all season in Serie A.

Juventus have allowed the same number of goals as their nearest rivals on the way to clinching theScudetto, and once again Giorgio Chiellini has been much of the reason for that. The Italy international has been a superb presence over the past nine months for the Bianconeri, earning a third title winner's medal as reward.

Juan Cuadrado has continued his upward curve through 2013-14, enhancing his growing reputation as one of the world's most explosive wide players. His magnificent explorations down the right flank have helped to push Fiorentina to another fourth place finish as well as a Coppa Italia runners-up spot.

Juventus' third successive title win has coincided with a third sensational season from Arturo Vidal. The Chilean midfielder's magnificence is practically taken for granted these days, and his return of 11 goals and seven Team of the Week appearances is simply the norm for one of Serie A's greatest assets.
Much of Fiorentina's best play over the last couple of seasons has featured the unparalleled artistry and work-rate of Borja Valero. The Spaniard has become the key cog around which Vincenzo Montella's side is built, and has led the side superbly as they have again excelled at home and abroad.

Torino could yet find themselves heading for Europe next term, and that is largely thanks to the impact ofAlessio Cerci over the course of the season. The Italy wide man has regularly been the Granata's star man as they have upset some big names on their way to the upper echelons of the table.

Juventus' one flaw in their previous title campaigns was their lack of goals, but Carlos Tevez has well and truly banished those days to the history books. A total of 19 league goals have seen the Argentine into our Team of the Week 11 times, while his high assist rate has also been a huge highlight of the Bianconeri's team.
While Tevez was tasting Serie A life for the first time this season, Luca Toni used all of his top-flight experience perfectly on the way to netting 19 goals in an excellent campaign for Verona. The ex-Palermo, Fiorentina and Bayern Munich man has grabbed key goals in big moments for the Gialloblu in their long-awaited return to Serie A.
Ciro Immobile, meanwhile, has outscored both Tevez and Toni on his way to the top of theCapocannoniere charts. The 24-year-old has followed years of top reviews with a high class return in Serie A, netting 21 goals to leave Torino on the verge of European football for the first time in 12 years.
